Semester 1

VIC501B2, Skills Development, 20 Credit Points, John McMillan
This module enables the student to develop a personal direction in their work which is appropriate for their career aspirations. It is planned to complement the input and learning in module VIC502 Professional Skills Development with the project development and outcomes from this module. It assists assessment of personal strengths and weaknesses through self- reflection, encourages personal enquiry, experimentation, innovation and risk-taking.

VIC502B1, Individual Practice, 20 Credit Points, John McMillan
This module builds on the student's knowledge of fundamental design principles, develops understanding of creative problem-solving and develops skills to a more advanced level. It is project-focused and relates closely to module VIC501 Individual Practice, serving as a preparation for the professional context. Addressing current issues in visual communication bring the creative and production aspects of the design process much closer.

VIC503, Research and Writing 3, 20 Credit Points, Pat Griffin
The module facilitates the student to engage in a focused understanding of the context of visual communication practice using theoretical debate and analytical methodologies. Independent research and study is an essential aspect of the module, students work with their superivsor on their individual dissertation projects.

Semester 2

VIC504B2, Professional 20 Credit Points, John McMillan
Professional planning and presentation are central to high achievement in the final semester. This module is designed to refine planning, management strategy and working practice, improve capability in exhibition preparation and production. A body of work for the semester is developed through personal reflection and a strategy based upon the individual student's career objectives and includes a personal promotion component. The module complements module VIC505 Major Projects.

VIC505B2, Major Projects, 40 Credit Points, Andrew McConnell
Modules in the final semester of the course become much more personalised. In consultation with your tutor you will prepare a contract which requires you to specify an array of projects, including national competition briefs, to be completed throughout the semester. Although group seminars and tutorials will provide guidance and advice, this form of working requires you to accept responsibility for the planning and execution of your work. The module is directly linked to the work undertaken in the VIC504 Professional Module.
