These bookmarks are created from the 3 tallest building in Sweden to a scale of 1:1000.  They also have produced a bookmark for the world’s tallest building The Burj Dubai.

These holders have been illustrated in different styles and periods. Together they create an entire city on a book shelf.

It’s ‘Show time’ folks! Yes, it’s that time of year again and with the final year degree shows fast approaching the Faculty is a blur of activity. An atmosphere of excitement, hysteria and exhilaration prevails and once again this year promises a show par excellence so come along to York Street Belfast between the 7th–19th June for this inspirational event.

A special thank you to Amy and Rachel our placement students at ‘Seed’ for being invaluable members of the team. Amy has worked tirelessly throughout the year to ensure the exacting standards of Design for Visual Communication are met and her professionalism is evidenced by the design work she produced for the Ulster Festival of Art & Design. Although Rachel has only been with us for a short time this dynamic duo have worked over and above the call of duty and we wish them every success for their final year!

Drawing Unlimited promotes and celebrates the experimental drawing work of UU students across courses and across year groups.

The Drawing Unlimited Project (School of Art and Design) took place in November 2009 and March 2010. Students used drawing to motivate, challenge, inspire and make links.

The workshops were designed to explore traditional drawing methods alongside digital methods e.g. drawing over still and moving imagery projected onto large rolls of paper, using paint, ink, crayons, pencils, drawing directly onto video footage via a drawing tablet and collaborating with others to devise drawing methods, improvise tools and solve problems.

‘Artists Series: Milton Glaser’ by Hillman Curtis

I am aware that this interview has been online for some time now, but if like me you sometimes lose sight of why you are doing what you are doing this is the perfect remedy. Milton Glaser’s words of wisdom inspire and reaffirm.

May is a particularly busy month for staff and students alike with hand-ins coming to an end, the atmosphere is one of relief mixed with panic as students pull out all the stops for the final push. Many white faces evidence the necessity of burning the midnight oil and that’s not just the students!

‘Schizo Movie Trailer – watch’

Definitely most effective in the cinema, but this still comes across well. This is not a film – it is an advert.

I absolutely adore this advertisement. It was created back in 2009 for the Volkswagen Independent Cinema Sponsorship campaign. It was the brainchild of London advertising agency by DDB London. It is a very well executed piece of advertising, extremely witty and light hearted, and just throws you back in time a great timepiece and a great piece of nostalgia that successfully targets its desired audience. I delved in further into VW advertising and discovered that this wasn’t the first VW vs DeLorean advert. In the 70’s they had James Bond, take on the two, quite a funny ad!

Bad news everyone! The Bryan Edmondson (SEA) Lecture that was to take place on the 22nd April (this Thursday) has unfortunately been postponed due to problems with flights within the UK. It is hoped that this event will take place in the next semester, we will keep you posted.

As I’m looking at advertisement this semester for University I came across these really powerful images that brings home the fact that all these people died because no one was able to give them first aid.  This campaign was produced by Nadav Kander, with the aim to illustrate the importance of everyone having basic first aid skills, by giving examples where they could save a life.  The portraits show the faces of individuals that look like they are sleeping, however the text explains that they are in fact died and tragically died in situation where first aid could have saved their lives. It is a very simple layout containing a very powerfully message.  This information and images were got from the Creative Review Blog.
