The Hayward Gallery held the most interesting exhibition I’ve ever came across, where I adventured into the artists imagination…
Walking in my mind is an expedition into the mysterious mental processes of creativity; about what goes on inside the artists head. Ten contemporary artists investigate the nature of perception, in ways of thinking and primal emotions in installations and displays ranging from the ordered to the rampageous, and from meditative to overwhelming. Using diverse media including drawing, video and sculpture, they have created environments that are intended to be explored psychologically and perceptually, by walking – not simply through and around them, but metaphorically, within our own minds.
My favourite, undoubtedly is Yayoi Kusama with her polkadot obsession. i loved how the inflatable sculptures allowed you to view the world through her eyes & experience that dizzy feeling.
‘My artwork is an expression of my life, particularly of my mental disease. My art originates from hallucinations only i can see. I translate the hallucinations and obsessional images that plague me into sculptures and paintings.’ – Yayoi Kusama.
