Shows

This year is the 160th Anniversary of the School of Art and Design and the 2009 show is taking on a special look in celebration of the occasion. The striking new foyer on the Belfast campus will be a spectacular showcase, highlighting momentous events across its 160 years.

Students from each of the many disciplines will exhibit their work as the campus is transformed into Belfast’s biggest gallery.

The work ranges from fashion, photography and architecture, to ceramics, painting and product design. This is a great opportunity to sample the breadth and quality of ideas from our newest graduates as they prepare to take their first steps into the world of the creative industries.

PANI Awards 7:00pm £2/£4
9 June 09 - Studio Bar

PANI

Students from the University’s Visual Communication course, as well as the Communication, Advertising and Marketing course have been working with local advertising agencies as part of a collaborative project with the Publicity Association Northern Ireland (PANI).

Throughout May, six student groups have been working with six top advertising agencies on a competitive advertising campaign to be pitched to a jury in June. This exciting initiative has given students the opportunity to put their creative and marketing skills to use in the design of a simulated advertising campaign under the guidance of professional mentors.

The jury has come to its decision and the winning team will be announced at this presentation event, amidst the cream of local creative talent.

Bruno Magg 7:00pm - £2/£4
10 June 09

Magg

Bruno Maag served his apprenticeship as a typesetter for the Tages Anzeiger, Switzerland’s largest daily paper and fell in love with the smell of ink and the clatter of printing machinery. He studied typography at Basel School of Art and cut his professional teeth designing type at Monotype, in the UK and the States, where he designed fonts for the New Yorker magazine.

He established Dalton Maag in 1991 which has grown to a large foundry with offices in the UK, Switzerland and Brazil. It creates fonts for companies such as Tesco, Toyota, Burberry and Puma. A speciality of the company is its expertise in non-Latin scripts, including Arabic, Cyrillic and Greek. Bruno will talk about visual noise; how to stand out without shouting.
