A design portfolio is essential along with the appropriate level of education indicated by the UCAS tariff points (these are an agreed way to determine the level of educational qualifications). A Level – a minimum of 240 UCAS Tariff Points to include grades CC. Irish Leaving Certificate – 240 UCAS Tariff Points to include BBCCC.

The course is three to four years in duration. Submission of a portfolio is required and applicants will be interviewed. It is preferable that applicants have successfully completed a Diploma in Foundation Studies.

While the majority of applicants to year one continue to have had some form of foundation or access course after sixth form, not all of these are from traditional art foundation courses. We welcome and encourage applicants from wider access courses so long as the applicant is able to provide a portfolio that demonstrates visual and problem solving skills of some kind–drawing, painting, photography, printmaking etc.

Exemptions and transferability

Students may be granted module or level exemption on production of evidence of prior learning or prior experiential learning deemed suitable for accreditation by the University.
