18 June 09 - Illustrate This!

Kev Largey

Kev Largey

A fantastic illustration event was held in Uni as part of the Festival of Art and Design programme. This unique experience which was led by illustrator Kev Largey proved popular with students and graduates of Viscom. The freedom to draw on pristine walls inspired a wealth of creativity as you can see from the example above (illustration by Kev). An added bonus is that the work created will be a permanent feature of our Viscom studio.

Very well done to our first year students for embracing the challenge with such confidence. You can check out some more of Kev’s work here: www.kevlargey.com

05 June 09 - Getting Ready!

Alice and Calin

Final year degree shows are imminent and the faculty is a frenzied hive of activity. It's all very exciting! As this is the 160th anniversary of the School of Art & Design a celebratory air prevails and everyone is pulling out all the stops to make this the best show ever.

A special thanks to Mike Catto for providing a superb series of historic photographs which illustrate the last 160 years of creativity and innovation. These images have been incorporated into panels designed by our placement student Alice and will be illuminated in the walkway which runs throughout the building.

At this stage everything appears to be under control but I am sure there will be a few sleepless nights between now and the preview on the 9th June. The concentrated effort of staff and students promises to provide an innovative, inspired and informed insight into the wealth of talent we have in the Faculty of Art & Design. So come along to York Rd Belfast between 9-20 June and enjoy!

Every success and best wishes to our final year students.
